How it all began.
Ronco Nuovo is the name of a former settlement situated 550 meters above Valchiavenna in northern Lombardy. For centuries, wine, fruit, and vegetables were grown here on land painstakingly terraced by hand, livestock was raised, and chestnut trees were tended – a place that was once teeming with life.
When we discovered the place in 2016, nature had reclaimed much of it. The hillside was overgrown, the buildings abandoned and partly in ruins. And yet the special atmosphere of this place was immediately palpable – and it never again let us go.
Who we are.
We are Carolin and Timo. We live mostly in Heidelberg, Germany, with our two children. In our previous careers, we spent many years in leadership roles at several startups.
We’ve always loved the mountains and spend a lot of time exploring the wilderness. When we discovered Valchiavenna, we were hooked.
By renovating the abandoned mountain settlement of Ronco Nuovo, we’ve fulfilled a dream—the dream of living in the mountains.
Fulfilling a dream.
This place will be our very own private hideaway. However, after restoring and opening BOTTONERA casa vacanza in charming Chiavenna – just a few minutes away – back in 2022, we’ve discovered a new passion for tourism. That’s why we’re now offering RONCONUOVO hideaway to guests as a truly special vacation home.
We began by carefully restoring three old dry-stone stables – with the goal of preserving the original architecture while creating a space that meets the needs of modern life.
Ronco Nuovo was never meant to be a museum, but rather a living, breathing place. Step by step, a retreat emerged that carries its history while remaining firmly rooted in the present.
